With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass having wrapped up recently, another feature for the next installment, Mario Kart 9 for the Switch 2, can include character costumes.

Mario Kart 8 started this with having nine alternate colors for Yoshi and Shy Guy, then Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had several different choices for Inkling, as well as Link in Classic and Breath of the Wild styles, then nine colors for Birdo. Instead of Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach taking separate slots, they can be alternate costumes when the character is selected. For example, Mario can have costumes like Classic, Builder, Tanooki Suit, Penguin Suit, Flying Squirrel Suit, and Cat Suit. Luigi would have much of the same, but have the Tanooki Suit replaced with Fox. Koopa Troopa can have a choice of red shell, green shell, and blue spiny shell. Koopa Paratroopa can make a comeback, and have the same choices with wings. The blue shell is one of the most infamous items in the series, and you'd actually get to play as it. Toad can also have alternate colors, as well as Captain Toad as a costume.

Wave 6 went live a few days ago, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC has concluded. The game has twice as many courses as it did before, plus eight additional characters: Birdo, Petey Piranha, Wiggler, Kamek, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Pauline and Peachette. With everything added, this really made it THE Switch Mario Kart, and not just a port of the original Wii U game.

There were a disproportionately large number of Tour courses, with some cups having more than one because this was essentially the console version of Mario Kart Tour. Courses that didn't make the cut can be saved for the real Mario Kart 9 for the Switch 2.

Speaking of which, I feel Nintendo might already be working on Mario Kart 9 for the upcoming Switch 2 console. Not a port, but an actual new installment. It can have every character that's ever been playable in the console series, including Donkey Kong Jr., Koopa Paratroopa, ROB and Honey Queen. I don't play Tour, so I don't know all the characters for that one, but it can have new characters like Monty Mole, Spike, Professor E. Gadd, Boom Boom, Pom Pom, Octoling, Callie and Marie. Different colors for Toad can also be added.

Mario Kart 9 would most likely start with the usual four cups of new courses and four cups of retro courses. For new courses, it could have a Zelda course based on Tears of the Kingdom, an Animal Crossing course based on New Horizons, and an actual Splatoon course. Base retro courses could be like this (just my speculation, but no Tour courses in the base version):

These are all courses that haven't already been brought back before. Items can include the return of the Fake Item Box and the Bowser Shell. The Crazy Eight can become the Amazing Nine.

We had the Fall Nintendo Direct earlier, and some things that were announced include remakes of Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door. The first F-Zero game in like two decades is an online Battle Royale version of the original called F-Zero 99. The only game in the 99 series to get a physical version was Tetris 99. They should do Super Mario Bros. 99, which would be an unlimited version of Super Mario Bros. 35, and with a lot more players.

The first thing that was shown was Splatoon 3 Side Order, which I had been waiting quite a while for an update on. Was originally planned for release sometime this year, but has been delayed to Spring 2024. It's a good thing because the developers are really going to take their time to make sure it comes out as a high-quality masterpiece, and not a rushed buggy mess. In Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion, once you finish all tests and MIRACULOUSLY beat Inner Agent 3, you'd never go back to it because there's nothing left to do, but they're looking to change that with Side Order, by making it something you'd want to keep coming back to. It's also the first physical appearance of Dedf1sh, and her name is Acht. I'm personally hoping she gets an amiibo next year, with the special gear being the outfit she's wearing. One thing that wasn't shown in the Nintendo Direct was that we're getting the Deep Cut amiibo this November. Unlike the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook, Deep Cut will be sold separately, not together, due to Big Man's sheer size.

For Splatoon 3, it's already been one year since the game's launch, and naturally they were going to celebrate it with a Splatfest, which decided the leader of Deep Cut, Shiver. I was on Team Shiver, and won. We had both a Big Run AND a Splatfest this month because of it being the anniversary of the game's launch. Still got one more year of Splatfests, and it won't be until next September before we get to Splatoon 3 Final Fest. Another thing I really want to see added is Tri-Color Turf War outside Splatfests, so we can play Tri-Color Turf War anytime, since I'm tired of the same old 4v4 turf wars.
